My Husband Is Getting A Job At Disney World Resort, Where To Live?

My husband will be working at the WDW Resort in Florida. We will be moving from Connecticut so we are unfamiliar with the area. Besides using a realtor, can you recommend a smallish town, close (30 minutes) with a great school system? We are looking for a single family home around 5k no crime (yeah right) some land would be nice. I do like to shop! I'm leaning towards the Tampa side due to the professional sports there. Also, what towns should we stay away from? I am a bit nervous about crime, (we like to leave our doors unlocked).Your opinions are appreciated!! :)

As far as nearby towns, Interstate 4 is the commute from hell, so what I would suggest is one of the small towns up and down US 27. That highway turns left onto US 192, which is the road that leads directly into WDW. Kissimmee is probably the best bet. What you can do is when you come down for the first time, take the US27 exit (Clermont exit) off the Fl Turnpike, and then just look at the towns along the way (Clermont, Howey in the Hills, etc.). I would NOT suggest anything to the East or the Northeast (Sanford, Deland, Lake Mary, Apopka, Zephyrhills), because you're going to have to commute all the way across Orlando to get to work. Stay along US27 near US 192 and you'll do fine, because WDW is on THAT end of 192, and most of your commute will be on 192, without having to even get on the interstate. hope this helps

While Orlando is only a 16 mile commuet on I-4 and has been touted as one of the worst CRIME cities in the Universe, there are no roaming bands of killers taking people down. Lake BV, Clebration, etc, and South West of WDW in pockets the housing is high end. Kissimmee is near enough using 192 as a commute, and may have pockets of decency. In some measure HIS job may dictate your location, in as much as salary, commute time, fuel costs, are part of the mix. Certainly CT is an expensive state to live in, and far different from Central FL, so your comparisons may be OK, budget wise. Leaving doors unlocked is like putting up a sign on the lawn, hey we are WIDE OPEN,,,anywhere on the planet, get over that, please. GREAT school system is totally relative and subjective, and you may want to look into Private, or Magnet, or Charter, type. An example of that might be found in O town sports car center of orlando. There are dedicated people working in school systems, and inner city schools serve the best way they can, but Florida doesn't strictly rate HIGH in it's educational offerings. You could move to, and live anywhere on the planet and find up and down sides. A Single family home in that price range might most likely be found as tract housing in a development, and probably not new. I think you can assume that housing can sell for as much as 0 a sq. ft. anywhere sports car center of orlando sports car center of orlando. Steven WolfJust my two "sense"

2008-03-21 11:48:41 Merrie-Lord says: near aniheim is the best but it may be expensive maybe cypress will be a little better sports car center of orlando.

2008-03-21 12:00:28 Tyrell-Garratt says: there is a website called city data and you can search any town and state for statistics.i too have had to use the site. we also go into yahoo maps and look up towns, then we search for shopping, hospitals and ect ect to see if they can meet our needs....it's helpful to see what the town has to offer.give those a whirl and have fun.by the way nowdays it best to start keeping things locked it does not matter how perfect everything looks you can't trust people anymore no matter what.

2008-03-21 11:55:31 Alexander-Snyder says: Kissimmee is very close to WDW and reasonably priced, near the Orlando area, and still has some land available. Tampa is about an hour to the West on I-4. If you don't mind that drive, you may consider Lakeland which is sort of between Orlando and Tampa giving you access to both with only a relatively short drive.

2008-03-21 13:37:39 Bella-Drumm says: seriously check out clermont. it is about 30-45 minutes from disney depending on what part of the city you live in. it is still small but quickly growing (our first mall should be finish next year with a movie theater finally). i live in a small town called mascotte 15min west of clermont and my wife and i currently both work in clermont sports car center of orlando. when we first moved here i worked for disney too and the commutes not bad. home prices in clermont start at about 0,000 but if you go to the surrounding areas you can get close to 0,000 depending on what your looking for.don't! sports car center of orlando. reconsider and stay in ct! my husband transfered us for a job in orlando just 2 years ago and life has never been the same. realtors said don't buy since we didn't know the area, all apartments are going condo, and we made" too much money" (by default just being a northerner with w-2's) or stay poor and i could'nt work to put us into a lower income bracket. traveling to work if you find it is ridiculous. we ended up settling over 45 mins. away north from his job and they laid him off anyway within 3 months. i am a pastry cook and would have to settle for less or drive over an hour one way to the hospitality jobs in south orlando. my son's high school has over 2000 students and our city's population is over 80,000 and growing. couldn't afford to move home if we tried. stay where you are "y'all" and avoid the tornadoes...take if from me, do your research .celebration is beautiful, but out of this world expensive sports car center of orlando sports car center of orlando. i don't think you are going to find what you are looking for as far as price ranges go there sports car center of orlando. tampa is pretty far away - definitely not 30 minutes and i'm not sure what the guy meant that told you to look at kissimmee, but not central florida as kissimmee is part of central florida. southeast orlando is nice, but a bit further away than 30 minutes sports car center of orlando. while you won't have much land, try looking up waterford lakes or avalon park. avalon park is a neo-traditional neighborhood like celebration, but more affordable. if you are looking for a parcel of land, though and it's one of your main priorities, this area isn't for you as the lawns are small. the schools are excellent, though.

2008-03-21 12:15:49 Shaun-Baker says: Honestly I recommend Lake County. Try Clermont, or Minneola, really growing out there, so lots of new restaurants and stores.
